Electricity bill May 2026 QR Code update for consumers

ISLAMABAD – The Power Division has asked electricity consumers to stay alert against fake QR codes to get subsidy in bills. It warned that fraudulent activities being carried out by hackers and criminal elements under the guise of a government subsidy scheme. The Power Division spokesperson highlighted that certain elements were attempting to steal personal information of users through fake QR codes and suspicious online links related to electricity bill subsidies. The official explained that scammers are directing consumers to click on specific links and provide personal information through a multi-step process. After submitting their details, users are then asked to enter a six-digit verification code on the same platform. The spokesperson warned that these tactics are fraudulent and illegal, noting that some individuals are using QR codes to carry out malicious activities. He emphasized that personal and subsidy-related information should only be submitted through official electricity bill channels. Consumers were advised not to share their personal information in any form, whether online or on paper, to access electricity subsidies. The Power Division also confirmed that law enforcement authorities have been alerted and are taking action against the perpetrators behind these scams.
