Banks to Extend Working Hours Ahead of Fiscal Year-End
Why this matters: local context for readers following news across Pakistan and the region.
The State Bank of Pakistan has issued special operating hours for banks to facilitate tax payments before the close of the fiscal year. The Federal Board of Revenue has requested extended banking services, prompting special operating hours for commercial banks and designated branches of the National Bank of Pakistan until June 30. Under the arrangement, all commercial bank branches that normally operate on Saturdays, along with NBP branches responsible for customs-related collections, will remain open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday, June 27, 2026. Banks handling government revenue collections will also extend their working hours during the final days of June. Branches will remain open until 8:00 pm on Monday, June 29, and until 10:00 pm on Tuesday, June 30. In addition, NBP branches dealing with customs collections will continue operations until 11:59 pm on June 30 to facilitate last-minute payments. Banks have been instructed to keep the relevant branches operational for as long as necessary to support the special clearing of government transactions processed through the National Institutional Facilitation Technologies (NIFT). The banking sector has also been directed to ensure uninterrupted access to digital payment services, including internet banking, mobile banking applications, ATMs, and other electronic channels, enabling taxpayers to make government payments online without disruption. The special measures are aimed at ensuring the smooth collection of taxes and duties ahead of the fiscal year-end deadline. Red Bull Cement Plant Sealed, Industry Praises Multi-Agency Action
