FDA OKs first new sunscreen ingredient in more than 25 years

WASHINGTON — Federal health regulators on Tuesday signed off on the first new&#x A0;sunscreen ingredient&#x A0;for the U.S. market in more than 25 years, giving Americans access to a&#x A0;skin-protecting&#x A0;chemical long used in Europe and other parts of the world. The Food and Drug Administration&#x A0;says the ingredient, bemotrizinol, met the agency’s standards for protecting from&#x A0;dangerous ultraviolet rays&#x A0;while causing little irritation or absorption into the skin.
