Why this matters: local context for readers following news across Pakistan and the region.

RAWALPINDI – Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman, has once again been shifted under tight security from Adiala Jail to Al-Shifa Hospital in Rawalpindi for her ongoing medical treatment. The incarcerated wife of former PM was moved in high-security transfer to undergo a follow-up examination of her previously operated eye. The transfer from Adiala Jail was carried out under strict security arrangements. Bushra Bibi had earlier undergone eye surgery on April 17 at the Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, where her condition was treated. Since the procedure, her eye has been regularly monitored through follow-up checkups, which were previously conducted inside the jail premises. Sources further added that after completion of the medical examination at the hospital, she is expected to be shifted back to Adiala Jail under the same security protocol. Bushra Bibi, wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has been convicted in multiple high-profile cases and is currently serving prison sentences, according to court rulings. The wife of PTI founder remained in jail after being sentenced in Toshakhana-2 case, as FIA court sentenced her to 17 years in prison, along with Imran Khan, over allegations involving the unlawful retention and sale of state gifts. In the Al-Qadir Trust case, Bushra got 7-year sentence, while Imran Khan was sentenced to 14 years. Appeals against the verdict have so far not succeeded at the interim stage. In another Iddat case, both were initially sentenced to 7 years, but the decision was later overturned on appeal, leading to their temporary release at that time.
