Only the legendary Jack Nicklaus, who contested 146 successive majors between 1962 and 1998, can better Scott's feat as the 45-year-old headlines a six-strong Australian challenge at this week's PGA Championship in Pennsylvania. The 2013 Masters champion will bring up the magical 100-straight-majors milestone at next month's US Open after booking his ticket to Shinnecock Hills with a fourth-placed finish at the Cadillac Championship 10 days ago. Cameron Smith is leaving no stone unturned in his bid to correct his recent form slump, even if that means parting ways with someone he considers a friend. Putting Scott's record into perspective, fellow former world number one Jordan Spieth is second among active players with 52 major appearances in a row. Spieth is in awe of Scott's run, which began way back in 2001. "Yeah, it's not only maintaining your health but maintaining that level of play," Spieth said, who could become only the seventh player to complete a career grand slam of major triumphs at Aronimink on Sunday. "What a testament to being healthy, doing things the right way, and then being that good for that long. "The health is probably the hardest part because some of the best players to ever play the game that you would have thought would have made that list didn't because they were out for injury. "So it's amazing. It's something I'd love to challenge him on some day." Scott, though, is not in the field to make up the numbers. The veteran remains desperate to claim an elusive second major and showed with a bogey-free, 14-under-par weekend charge at Trump National Doral's Blue Monster in Miami to secure a US Open berth that he still has the game to compete with golf's big boys. A model of consistency, he has made the cut at all 10 events he's played in 2026 and rounded out his PGA Championship preparations with a tie for 24th at Quail Hollow on Sunday. "To win a major, I'm going to need to put four days together, not just a weekend coming from behind," he said. "I feel like my game is there. At 32, Smyth is relishing the chance to make his US major championship debut after winning the Australasian order of merit with a dazzling summer display. "It's a major, so it should be set up quite difficult," he said. "And mentally, I'm just preparing for the hardest test of golf."
