LAHORE – Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry Regional Chairman and Vice President Zaki Aijaz has demanded the immediate withdrawal of the Punjab Infrastructure Development Cess, terming it harmful for investment, industry and employment in the province. Zaki Aijaz said the newly imposed levy would further increase the cost of doing business and add pressure on an already struggling industrial sector in Punjab. He maintained that the province does not need additional taxation but requires industrial revival and policies that support economic growth. He said rising business costs are already affecting industrial competitiveness, and any further financial burden would discourage investment and slow down economic activity. He warned that if the cess is not withdrawn, it could accelerate de-industrialisation in Punjab, leading to reduced production, declining exports and job losses. He urged the government to reduce the burden on industries and instead focus on making business processes easier and more investor-friendly. The FPCCI representative stressed that protecting employment, exports and investment should remain a priority, adding that the Punjab Infrastructure Development Cess should be withdrawn in the larger interest of the economy. He further said that sustainable industrial growth in Punjab depends on business-friendly policies that encourage investment and strengthen the manufacturing sector.
