Trump credits PM Shehbaz, Field Marshal Asim Munir for Iran deal

WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump said that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDG) Field Marshal Asim Munir and are great individuals, adding that Pakistani leaders played a significant role in helping facilitate a deal with Iran. Speaking in an interview with an American website, President Trump said that Field Marshal Asim Munir has complete respect for his prime minister, which he described as a very positive quality. Trump said that Pakistani leaders were very helpful in efforts related to a deal with Iran, noting that Pakistan’s leadership knew the Iranian leadership and the Iranian people well. “In Pakistan, you have the Field Marshal, who is great. And you have the prime minister, and they just get along great. The military guy totally respects the prime minister. It’s a beautiful thing to see,” he remarked during the interview. He stated that China purchases 50 percent of its oil requirements from Iran. He added that the United States enjoys excellent relations with Israel. He further said that he would travel to China again at some point this year. Trump said he had asked China not to intervene in the Iran conflict, and Beijing had agreed. He also said that 34,000 people have been killed in the Russia-Ukraine war and that efforts are underway to secure a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
