2026 Genesis G80

Following a refresh last year, the Genesis G80 enters 2026 largely unchanged. It continues to be a relatively strong value in its segment, yet displays Genesis’ uniquely Korean approach to luxury. This luxury midsize sedan competes against European mainstays such as the BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The G80 was also offered with an all-electric powertrain, but that version has been discontinued. Given its sleek styling, well-crafted cabin, and premium materials, it has plenty of surface appeal. Great attention to detail and a generous list of standard features give the G80 credibility against more established rivals. Where the G80 stumbles is in its driving refinement. While most versions deliver adequate speed and ride comfort, powertrain tuning and fuel efficiency lag behind competitors. The G80 Electrified addresses those concerns with its smoother, more responsive power delivery, though it compromises interior and cargo space in the process. Even the G80 Sport doesn’t quite hit the mark as a true performance variant. Still, the G80’s core strengths remain intact for 2025. Strong value, impressive tech, and an extensive set of features contribute to Genesis’ position as a worthy alternative in a fiercely competitive segment. The G80 continues to be offered with a choice of two engines, both connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission and AWD. The basic 2.5-liter turbocharged I-4 produces 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque, which got the G80 from 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds in MotorTrend testing. An optional 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 increases output to 375 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. In MotorTrend testing, a G80 with this engine hit 60 mph in 5.0 seconds flat. When equipped with the I-4 engine, fuel economy for the G80 rates at about 20/29 mpg city/highway. The V-6 engine drops to 16/24 mpg. Driving range on a full tank of gas is approximately 413 miles with the I-4, and 367 miles with the V-6. In its most recent crash safety testing, the G80 earned 2024 Top Safety Pick+ status from IIHS, and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA in 2025, each the highest score. Note well that the G80 Electric has much less space inside due to its underfloor battery. All models have USB ports in both rows, and a wireless charging pad is added above the base trim. A nine-speaker audio system is standard, and an 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium arrangement is added on upper trims. High-end G80 models gain tech features including blind spot monitoring cameras, a 360-degree camera, a head-up display, and a semi-autonomous parking aid. In its entry-level trim at about $60,000, the G80 includes 18-inch wheels, LED headlights and taillights, and a power-operated trunk. We’d choose a G80 with the V-6 engine, as its power and refinement compared to the I-4 provides a more convincing luxury experience. The 3.5T Sport Prestige model gets 20-inch wheels, a head-up display, carbon fiber trim, a microfiber headliner, and 19-speaker audio system as upgrades to otherwise substantiate its approximately $80,000 starting price. For 2026 Genesis introduces the new range-topping G80 Prestige Black, which as its name suggests wears a stealthy, blacked-out treatment. The wheels, grille, badges, and headlights are all darkened, and the car is available only in black or white paint with a black interior. Otherwise, it’s equipped the same as the 3.5T Sport Prestige model, but asks only $1,000 more for the look. Genesis also built the G80 with an all-electric powertrain. The G80 Electric looks almost exactly like the gas-powered version, but uses a dual-motor powertrain that eliminates the roughness of the standard engines.
