Why this matters: local context for readers following news across Pakistan and the region.

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has urged mobile users to protect their prepaid balances by activating the Balance Save feature, also known as the PAYG Blocker, on their SIM cards. The feature automatically halts internet usage once the data bundle is exhausted, preventing unexpected balance deductions. PTA emphasized that this simple step can help subscribers manage their mobile expenses more efficiently. Users of major telecom operators can activate the service by dialing the following codes: Jazz: *275# Zong: *4004# Ufone: *6611# Telenor: *342# PTA’s advice comes as part of ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and consumer protection in mobile services. A day earlier, PTA, as part of its ongoing consumer awareness and tariff transparency initiatives, has further enhanced the “Consumer Awareness” section on PTA’s official website to facilitate telecom consumers with improved access to tariff-related information and market trends. Under this initiative, PTA has introduced a more user-friendly and comprehensive display of quarterly tariff trends for the top ten hybrid bundles (subscriber-wise) offered by Jazz, Ufone, Telenor, and Zong, along with updated tariff sheets reflecting prevailing package prices. The information includes package-wise quarterly pricing, annual increase percentages, validity, and incentives offered by operators, enabling consumers to effectively compare telecom packages and make informed choices. Consumers are encouraged to regularly visit PTA’s official website (https://pta.gov.pk/category/price-changes-of-top-ten-hybrid-bundles-of-cmos-202526666-2026-05-18) as well as operators’ websites for updated tariff information and market trends.
