Why this matters: local context for readers following news across Pakistan and the region.

At least seven people have lost their lives, and 33 others have been injured in rain-related mishaps across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the past 24 hours. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said on Sunday that the fatalities included two children, four men and one woman. The incidents were reported from Bannu, Shangla and Mansehra districts amid strong winds, lightning strikes and heavy rainfall. The authority said many of the casualties occurred when roofs and walls of houses collapsed due to severe windstorms and downpours in different parts of the province. The latest deaths come just days after similar weather-related incidents earlier this month left two people dead and 31 others injured in the province. The PDMA had earlier issued an alert for several districts including Swat, Upper Dir, Kohistan and Buner, warning of unstable weather conditions. It also cautioned that rising temperatures after June 15 could accelerate snowmelt, increasing the risk of flooding in vulnerable areas. District administrations have been directed to maintain high alert levels in sensitive regions and to advise tourists and travellers to exercise caution. The public has also been urged to avoid rivers, streams and rain-fed areas during heavy rain. Five Killed, 23 Injured in Rain-Related Mishaps Across Punjab
