French climber dies, two still missing after avalanche on K6 Peak in Gilgit-Baltistan

GILGIT – A French mountaineer has died after an avalanche struck K6 Peak also known as Baltistan Peak in Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan region, according to information provided by the Alpine Club. The incident occurred in the Hushé Valley of Ghanche district, a popular destination for international climbing expeditions. The deceased climber was part of a three-member international mountaineering team attempting the peak. Officials said the avalanche hit the team while they were in the K6 area. The French climber lost his life in the incident, while the whereabouts of the other two team members remain unknown. According to the Alpine Club, the remaining climbers had not returned to the base camp at the time of reporting, raising concerns about their safety. Authorities have launched efforts to locate the missing team members and assess the situation in the remote mountain region. A rescue team comprising police personnel and local volunteers has been dispatched to the area. The team is expected to conduct search operations and gather further information about the condition and location of the missing climbers. K6 Peak is located in the Karakoram mountain range and attracts experienced mountaineers from around the world.
