Islamabad, Pakistan weather: More rain, windstorms and hail expected

More rain and gusty winds with isolated hailstorms are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and several other parts of Pakistan on Wednesday night and Thursday. Heavy rains are also expected at isolated places during the forecast period. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), weak moist currents from the Arabian Sea are penetrating southern parts of the country, while a westerly weather system remains active over the upper regions and is likely to persist until June 5. Under these weather conditions, rain and windstorms with occasional gaps are forecast for Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Upper and Central Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. The department also warned that isolated areas may experience heavy rainfall and hailstorms during the period. Hot and dry weather is expected to continue in other parts of the country. According to the forecast, Islamabad’s maximum temperature is expected to range between 38°C and 40°C on Thursday, 40°C and 42°C on Friday, and 41°C and 43°C on Saturday. In Rawalpindi, daytime temperatures are likely to remain between 36°C and 38°C on Thursday, 38°C and 40°C on Friday, and 39°C and 41°C on Saturday. During the last 24 hours, rain and thunderstorms were recorded in Islamabad and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh, Kashmir and Barkhan, while hot and dry conditions prevailed in most other regions. Among the highest rainfall totals recorded were 39mm in Kakul, 34mm in Islamabad’s Saidpur area, 32mm in Mohenjo-daro, 20mm in Rohri, 16mm in Kotli and 15mm each in Chakwal and Rawalakot.
