LAHORE – An 18-year-old domestic worker, who was allegedly subjected to gang rape in Lahore’s Model Town area, died during an abortion procedure, prompting police to add murder charges to the existing rape case. The police officials said that the gang rape case was registered on the basis of the victim’s written and video statements. In a video recorded before her death, the young woman alleged that the son of her employer and the household driver had repeatedly sexually assaulted her over the past five months. The victim stated that she learned she was pregnant in November and informed her parents about the pregnancy. She further claimed that she was later taken to a private clinic in Raiwind for an abortion. How the matter came to limelight? The police said her condition deteriorated during the procedure, after which she was shifted to Services Hospital for treatment. The hospital authorities found the circumstances suspicious and informed the police which led the launch of an investigation. What police think about suspect? The investigators said that before her death, the victim altered her statement and named only the driver as responsible. Police believe the change may have been made under alleged pressure from her employers and her father. The domestic worker remained under treatment at Services Hospital for two days but could not survive.
