Woman, two children killed in Lahore’s Mozang shooting; suspect dies by suicide

LAHORE – At least three people including a woman and two children were killed in the Mozang area of Lahore while the alleged attacker later died by suicide, the police confirmed on Saturday. The police said that deceased woman was identified as Ayesha. The two children who lost their lives were 14-year-old Musfira and 12-year-old Muneeb. Two other minors, Samra and Manahil, sustained injuries in the incident and were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where they are currently under treatment. Police said the suspect, identified as Shahid Jatt, a local property dealer, allegedly opened indiscriminate fire inside a residential flat. After carrying out the attack, he reportedly turned the weapon on himself and died at the scene. The authorities said the exact motive behind the shooting remaieds unclear at this stage. The investigators are probing it with different angles, including possible domestic or personal disputes, to determine the circumstances that led to the deadly incident. Soon after receiving the report, a heavy contingent of police reached the site and cordoned off the area. Officials from the crime scene unit and forensic teams also arrived to collect evidence, including bullet casings and other material that could assist in the investigation. Police officials stated that statements from witnesses and the injured children would be crucial in establishing the sequence of events. They added that further clarity is expected once forensic reports are completed. The bodies were shifted to a hospital for post-mortem examination, while legal proceedings have been initiated. The local authorities have assured that a thorough and transparent investigation is underway and that all facts surrounding the incident including suicide will be brought to light soon.
