A new, specialized tower, known as an "absorber unit,” captures a portion of the carbon dioxide (CO2) from cement production before the greenhouse gas can escape into the air and contribute to the warming of the atmosphere. At its commissioning in June 2025, Heidelberg Materials spoke of a "historic milestone" and the beginning of a "new era of sustainable construction." It was a pledge to climate protection from a major player in an industry with extremely high greenhouse gas emissions.
