PESHAWAR – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi is presenting the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2026–27 in the KP Assembly. The budget session is currently underway as lawmakers gather to review the government’s financial proposals and priorities for the upcoming fiscal year. KP Budget 2026-27 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has proposed a Rs2.17 trillion budget for FY2026–27, focusing on higher spending for government employees, pensioners, and development projects. Salary expenditures are expected to increase by 13%, while pension payments will rise by 17%. The province aims to raise Rs150 billion through its own revenues, but federal transfers—estimated at over Rs1.58 trillion—will remain its primary source of funding. To improve tax collection, the government has proposed a 30% discount on outstanding residential property dues for homeowners who make full payments by June 30, 2026. New taxes have also been suggested for transport and hospitality sectors, including annual taxes on rickshaws, commercial passenger vehicles, and hotel room occupancy. On the spending side, Rs1.645 trillion has been allocated for current expenditures, while more than Rs524 billion is earmarked for development projects through the Annual Development Programme (ADP). Additional revenues are expected from oil and gas surcharges and windfall levies. The proposed budget seeks to boost development and public services, but its new taxation measures may spark debate over their impact on businesses and citizens.
