Islamabad police have announced diversions and closures of various routes ahead of arrival of the Iranian President in the federal capital on official visit today (June 23). “From 12:00 AM until the next order, entry of all types of heavy traffic coming from any direction or any highway into Islamabad will remain closed,” the police said in an official statement. All entry routes to the Red Zone except Murree Road and Margalla Road will remain completely closed for all types of traffic. “Diversions will be in place for traffic on the Expressway from Korang to Faizabad, Murree Road, and Club Road. Srinagar Highway will remain completely closed from Zero Point to Dhokri Chowk,” the police said. Residents of Islamabad should implement the following alternative traffic plan in case of road closures. Traffic coming and going to Zero Point from Faisal Avenue will be diverted towards 9th Avenue. In case of closure from Zero Point to Korang Chowk, travel to Korang using 9th Avenue from Srinagar Highway via Stadium Road to Murree Road Chandni Chowk and then Rawal Road. In case of closure from Park Road to Club Road, traffic will be diverted towards Tramri Chowk. Citizens traveling to and from Rawalpindi via Bhara Kahu should use Korang Road, Bani Gala, and Lehtrar Road. Citizens traveling to and from Islamabad via Rawalpindi Saddar should use either Colonel Sher Khan Road to Faqir Appi Road or 9th Avenue. Heavy traffic from GT Road Peshawar to Lahore should use Taxila Motorway, Chakri Interchange, Chak Beli Road to Rawat GT Road. Heavy traffic from GT Road Lahore to Peshawar should travel via GT Road from Rawat to Chak Beli Road, using Chakri Interchange en route to the Motorway towards Taxila.
