LAHORE – Lahore administration and traffic police chalked out an extensive security and traffic management plan ahead of the 9th and 10th of Muharram, as Lahore prepares to host more than 378 majalis and 46 mourning processions across the provincial capital. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi said six major processions will be taken out on the two most significant days of Muharram, prompting one of the largest traffic deployment operations of the year. More than 200 traffic inspectors and over 2,300 traffic personnel will be stationed across the city to manage traffic flow, facilitate mourners, and ensure public safety. The central procession will commence from Nisar Haveli and pass through its traditional routes before culminating at Karbala Gamay Shah, while other major processions will originate from Pando Street, Qasr-e-Batool Shadman, Lal Pul Nabi Pura Shian, Model Town, Chuhng, and Thokar Niaz Baig. Traffic police officials said all procession routes, parking facilities, and diversion points have been thoroughly inspected, with personnel deployed at every critical location. CTO Shirazi will personally monitor all major gatherings and processions throughout the two days. Authorities also finalized extensive parking arrangements for participants and visitors. In a bid to minimize disruptions, emergency corridors will remain open at all times to ensure the uninterrupted movement of ambulances, rescue teams, and other emergency vehicles. Citizens have been advised to stay updated on traffic diversions and road closures through official social media channels and the Rasta App. Assistance and guidance will also be available around the clock through the emergency helpline 15. With thousands of mourners expected to participate, traffic police and allied departments are working in close coordination to maintain law and order.
