Banks to observe extended working hours on Friday and Saturday

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has directed commercial banks to extend working hours on Friday, May 29 to facilitate payment of taxes. “To facilitate taxpayers in paying government duties and taxes through over-the-counter (OTC) channels, and on the request of the Federal Board of Revenue, it has been decided that all commercial bank branches across the country will extend their working hours until 5:30 PM on Friday, May 29, 2026”, reads a statement issued by the SBP on Monday. In addition, all commercial bank branches that operate on Saturdays will remain open from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM on Saturday, May 30, 2026. Banks have also been directed to keep relevant branches open on May 30 for as long as necessary to support the special clearing of government transactions conducted by NIFT. Furthermore, financial institutions are required to ensure uninterrupted availability of digital banking services, including internet banking, mobile applications, ATMs, and other online platforms, to enable smooth electronic payment of government taxes and duties.
