ISLAMABAD – The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) on Wednesday declared that the publication of images, visual representations, or any content depicting prophets and other sacred personalities is impermissible under Islamic law, urging complete avoidance of such material to preserve their sanctity and dignity. The decision was made during a meeting of CII chaired by Dr. Raghib Hussain Naeemi, where members reviewed the country’s prevailing situation, legal matters and several issues of public importance before approving a number of resolutions. According to a resolution adopted during the meeting, the publication or dissemination of images, visual portrayals, or any material representing prophets and other revered religious figures is not permissible under Shariah. The council stressed that such content should be strictly avoided to uphold the respect and sacred status of these personalities. The resolution also welcomed the notice issued by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), describing it as a positive step. It called for legal action against those found responsible for the publication or broadcast of such content. The CII further emphasized that a responsible balance must be maintained between freedom of expression and respect for religious sensitivities. To prevent similar incidents in the future, the council recommended that media organizations establish effective pre-publication screening mechanisms and strengthen editorial oversight to ensure that content involving religious matters is thoroughly reviewed before being aired or published. The meeting also approved several other decisions relating to legal and public interest matters, according to the council. Geo News fires staff behind Muharram Documentary after 2 weeks PEMRA Ban
