LAHORE – School students across Punjab had a shorter summer vacation this year after attending month-long summer camps amid disturbance in acadmic calender. With camps concluding on June 30, Punjab Education Department directed all schools to end these activities from July 1, allowing students to spend the remaining break at home before the new academic session begins. Authorities in Punjab directed to end summer camps in all public and private schools from July 1, warning educational institutions that any violation will invite strict legal and administrative action. Schools are restricted from organizing summer camps beyond June 30. The department clarified that the earlier approval granted for these activities expired on June 30 and no extension has been sanctioned. The decision comes as hot and humid conditions continue to grip Punjab, raising serious concerns over the health and safety of students, teachers, and school staff. Education authorities warned that prolonged exposure to the prevailing weather could increase the risk of heat exhaustion, dehydration, and other heat-related illnesses among children. Officials made it clear that schools defying the order will face severe consequences. These may include hefty financial penalties, issuance of show-cause notices, and, in cases of repeated or serious violations, suspension or cancellation of the institution’s registration. To ensure directive is implemented without exception, Punjab Education Department has instructed all District Education Authorities to immediately communicate the order to schools and oversee its enforcement. Special monitoring teams have also been constituted and will begin inspections across the province from July 1.
