Summer Vacations 2026 update as Punjab Govt mulls Proposals

KARACHI – Students across Punjab begin to gear up for long-awaited summer vacations, uncertainty still hangs over the final schedule of upcomig break. Punjab government continues deliberations over multiple proposals, sparking anticipation among parents, students, and education stakeholders. Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed that no final decision has been made regarding summer holidays in Punjab’s schools. He stated that the government is currently reviewing three to four different proposals before reaching a conclusion. According to minister, a final announcement regarding summer vacations is expected within the next few days, ending the ongoing uncertainty surrounding school closure dates. The issue gained further attention due to earlier remarks made in April, when Rana Sikandar Hayat addressed growing speculation about the 2026 summer holidays. At that time, he clarified that no final decision would be taken until after May, putting an end to premature reports circulating in the media. The minister disclosed that provincial government is seriously considering a reduction of 15 to 20 days in summer vacations this year. The move is part of a broader effort to recover academic losses and improve learning outcomes in schools. He further revealed that provincial government is planning to increase academic calendar from 180 to 190 days, ensuring timely completion of the syllabus across all educational institutions. In addition to changes in summer break duration, authorities are also reviewing a proposal to reduce winter vacations by 5 to 6 days, indicating a potential restructuring of the overall school holiday schedule in the region.
