LAHORE – Internationally acclaimed Pakistani singer Abrar-ul-Haq has alleged that Bollywood unlawfully used his hit song Nach Punjaban by relying on forged documents and fake signatures. Speaking during a recent podcast interview, Abrar-ul-Haq claimed that he never sold the rights to Nach Punjaban to Bollywood. Responding to a question about the alleged unauthorized use of the song, he said he approached those involved and was given what he described as an unusual explanation. According to the singer, he was told that the song had been obtained from his friend Haroon. However, Abrar-ul-Haq rejected the claim, stating that he had never transferred the song to Haroon and that the rights to the track remained his property. The singer further alleged that forged documents bearing fake signatures had been prepared to justify the use of the song. He claimed that similar practices had affected several other artists as well, adding that Bollywood knew how to manipulate and present such matters. When asked whether permission had been sought for the use of Nach Punjaban in a film produced by filmmaker Karan Johar, Abrar-ul-Haq said no authorization had been obtained from him. He maintained that the film heavily relied on the popularity of the song and described the move as unjust. Abrar-ul-Haq also revealed that he had initiated legal proceedings over the matter and that the case remains under litigation.
