TEHRAN – Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said on Tuesday that the Strait of Hormuz would be administered by Tehran in accordance with international law. His remarks came after negotiations in Switzerland that focused on regional security and efforts to reduce tensions. State media reported that Iran and the United States agreed to establish communication channels to help keep the vital shipping route open and address issues related to ongoing regional conflicts. Speaking after returning from the talks, Ghalibaf described the discussions as productive and said they yielded positive outcomes. In a video shared on his Telegram account, Ghalibaf said progress had been made on matters including the Strait of Hormuz, discussions concerning Lebanon, an oil waiver issue, and the release of frozen funds. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House that the Strait of Hormuz was fully open and said Iran was taking positive steps regarding the waterway. Trump also warned that action could be taken if Iran failed to comply with any agreement. He added that relations would remain stable as long as Iran showed respect toward the United States. The US president further expressed confidence that Iran would agree to extensive weapons inspections and support long-term nuclear transparency measures.
