Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday said that telecommunications and technology had become effective and powerful tools of the modern era, adding that telecommunication was no longer merely a means of communication but a pathway to new heights. In her message on World Telecommunication Day, the chief minister said the Punjab government was committed to building a “Digital Punjab” and opening avenues for an educational revolution. She said that 5G digital telecommunication would prove to be a harbinger of revolution in Punjab and across Pakistan, adding that innovation in telecommunication technology was essential to benefit from artificial intelligence (AI). CM Maryam Nawaz said that e-governance and e-business had been successfully implemented in Punjab through telecommunication technologies. “Every student has a laptop in hand and we are connecting them with the world through innovation in telecommunications,” she added. She further stated that regular training programmes were being conducted to connect the youth with global IT and telecommunication markets. The chief minister said the establishment of Nawaz Sharif IT City would bring revolutionary improvements to the communication system. She added that the government aimed to make telecommunications not only a source of convenience but also a driver of transformation, transparency and development.
