JAKARTA – Indonesian authorities have initiated an investigation after a fatal train collision near Bekasi Timur Station left at least 14 people dead and scores injured. The incident occurred late Monday night when a long-distance train crashed into a stationary commuter train on the outskirts of Jakarta. Rescue teams carried out an extensive operation lasting nearly 12 hours, pulling survivors and victims from severely damaged compartments. Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency, Mohammad Syafii, confirmed on Tuesday that the operation had been completed and no additional victims were believed to be trapped.
