Why this matters: local context for readers following news across Pakistan and the region.

The education authorities on Tuesday confirmed that the second paper of AS-level Mathematics under the Cambridge International Education was leaked. Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) Executive Director Dr Ghulam Ali Mallah said they were awaiting a detailed official response from Cambridge. He noted that Cambridge had initially acknowledged the leak, calling the recurring incidents “deeply unfortunate,” and expressed concern over the continued failure to prevent such breaches. Dr Mallah further termed the repeated exposure of examination papers as regrettable. According to reports, the mathematics paper (9709/5), scheduled for 2 pm on Monday, was circulated on social media before the exam began. Earlier, Cambridge had also invalidated another AS-level Mathematics paper (9709/12) following a separate leak incident, stating that it could not be used for assessment purposes. The board had explained that the paper, originally conducted on April 29 in Administrative Zones 3 and 4, was shared without authorisation prior to the exam. In that case, Cambridge announced that affected candidates would be required to retake the examination, with a rescheduled paper set for June 9 as part of the official exam timetable.
