File | Photo Credit: PTI Iran has suspended exchanging texts with the U.S. over a preliminary agreement aimed at ending the war, in response to Israel’s escalating military strikes in Lebanon, the Tasnim news agency reported on Monday (June 1, 2026). Hours after Iran’s move, U.S. President Donald Trump said he had spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hezbollah, and that both sides agreed to stop attacking each other. He also said “talks are continuing with Tehran”. The CBSE’s re-evaluation portal, set for a much-awaited launch on June 1, remained inaccessible to users till late evening on Monday (June 1, 2026). On Monday (June 1) afternoon, the CBSE had stated that the “verification and re-evaluation portal will go live soon” but was inactive till the time of this report. Officials said that the portal would most likely go live before midnight. The delays follow severe criticism over the board’s expanded On-Screen Marking (OSM) system used for evaluating the Class 12 examinations this year. Reiterating CJP’s demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Mr. Dipke said a petition hosted on the CJP website had received over eight lakh signatures. United Doctors Front (UDF), which has been demanding the dissolution of the National Testing Agency (NTA), was not allowed to depose before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education headed by Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, after protests from BJP MPs on Monday (June 1, 2026). The Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports, chaired by senior Congress leader Mr. Singh, had convened a meeting on issues concerning the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test- Undergraduate (NEET-UG) examination and the functioning of the NTA. It also weighed in on the merits of “pen-and-paper testing” versus “computer-based tests”. The agency has come under scrutiny following allegations of paper leaks and irregularities in the NEET-UG examination. A Mumbai court on Monday (June 1, 2026) allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to arrest Amitabh Jhunjhunwala, a former senior executive at industrialist Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group, in a case related to alleged bank loan misuse. Mr. Jhunjhunwala was produced before special CBI judge J.P. Darekar on a production warrant from New Delhi’s Tihar Central Jail, where he was under judicial custody in a related money laundering case being probed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing has assured that he will not allow use of his country’s territory by groups that pose a security threat to Indian interests. The concern was raised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who hosted Mr. Hlaing at the Hyderabad House where broad-spectrum conversations were held, including calls for dialogue between the military junta-backed government and the pro-democracy Opposition. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said the discussion was “free-wheeling” and included the issue of continued detention of former leader and Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi. Lebanon’s U.S. Embassy said on Monday (June 1, 2026) that Hezbollah had accepted a U.S. proposal for a “mutual cessation of attacks”, after Israel threatened more strikes on south Beirut on the eve of a fourth round of Israel-Lebanon negotiations. “The Lebanese authorities received confirmation of Hezbollah’s acceptance of the U.S. proposal providing for a mutual cessation of attacks,” said an Embassy statement published by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun’s office.
