The automaker's venerable rear-engined, rear-or-all-wheel-drive supercar has existed in various forms for nearly seven decades. While it's been through many changes, one thing has stayed the same: It provides one of the best driving experiences that money can buy, and nearly every other supercar in the industry treats it as the bellwether, the high-water mark to which most others can merely aspire to mimic. There's nothing quite like it. There are nearly as many variants of 911 as there are kinds of potato chips at the grocery store, from the base Carrera up to the hybrid GTS—fifteen in all. And that doesn't count the Turbos or GT3s, which we review elsewhere. Each offers its own unique power level, and there are still manual-transmission variants kicking around, albeit fewer than we've seen in generations past. No matter the flavor you pick, your six-figure spend will go toward a car that you'll feel bad parking for any extended period of time. Expert Tip: If your tastes lean toward the power-hungry, consider taking a step up to the 911 Turbo, while track aficionados should turn their attention toward the brilliantly capable GT3 lineup. The 2026 model year saw the reintroduction of the Carrera 4S trim level and a few technological improvements. We expect to see no major changes for the 2027 model year. That said, the base 911 Carrera remains a relative bargain, and the Carrera T is the purist's choice. The Carrera S and all-wheel-drive Carrera 4S provide extra power and performance, with a 473-hp version of the twin-turbo flat-six. They are only offered with an eight-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission. However, both S variants have the previous GTS model's upgraded brakes as well as a standard sport-tuned exhaust and improved dampers. The T-Hybrid powertrain in the current GTS is based on the 3.6-liter six-cylinder boxer engine, incorporates a single electric turbocharger, and is supplemented by a powerful electric motor/generator that supplies an additional 54 hp and 110 pound-feet of torque for a combined 532 horsepower. The electric motor shares the housing of the PDK automatic transmission, and it all operates on a 400-volt electrical system. A 1.1-kWh lithium-ion battery stores the juice. We drove the base nonhybrid 911 and found it to be almost everything you’d want in a Porsche sports car. In our drive of the GTS, the hybrid setup proved impressive, as it operates unobtrusively in the background while providing a welcome acceleration boost to the turbocharged flat-six. We also drove the Carrera T variant and enjoyed the extra driver engagement its manual transmission provides. In Comparison: The GTS Coupe is the quickest Carrera we've tested so far at 2.5 seconds to 60 mph. The mighty Corvette Z06—with a 670-hp V-8 engine—needed an extra 0.1 second to complete the same test. First Row: A relatively simple, driver-centric interior design is a 911 staple, and despite the addition of more digital displays, this generation of the sports car adheres to that ethos. Base models are perhaps too spartan for the price, but you can dress things up with optional leather-wrapped dash pads, premium upholstery and trim options, and extra luxury features.
