QUETTA/PESHAWAR – The auhorities in Balochistan temporarily suspended mobile phone and internet services in Quetta on Wednesday as part of enhanced security arrangements for the 8th Muharram procession. The main procession in Quetta was held under stringent security measures, with mourners following designated routes before the event concluded peacefully in Mariabad. The officials from the provincial administration said the temporary suspension of cellular and internet services was implemented as a precautionary measure in response to security concerns during Muharram observances. The restrictions affected communication services across large parts of the provincial capital. The authorities said the suspension was aimed at ensuring the safety of participants and maintaining law and order during the procession. Mobile and internet services are expected to be restored gradually after security agencies complete their assessments and grant clearance. A heavy contingent of police and Frontier Corps personnel was deployed across the city, particularly along procession routes and at key entry and exit points. Security forces remained on high alert throughout the event to prevent any untoward incident.
