The industry now exists in a state of quantum superposition, where vehicles are both slated for battery-electric powertrains but also possibly not. In the meantime, we're getting some absolutely bangin' plug-in hybrids, which blend an e-motor's silent, torque-rich cruising with a petrol-swilling backup, and the Range Rover Sport P550e is one such PHEV.

We've already tested the lesser of the Sport PHEV's two variants, the P460e, which features the same powertrain ingredients as the P550e model: a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six good for up to 395 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque, plus an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission that can produce up to 215 horses and 332 pound-feet. However, while tuning differences and the convoluted math of hybrid power ratings limit the P460e to a combined 454 ponies and 487 pound-feet of torque, the P550e's total output is allowed to swell to 543 ponies and 590 pound-feet.
