Portugal National Day Celebrated with Diplomatic Grandeur in Islamabad

The Embassy of Portugal in Islamabad hosted a prestigious reception to celebrate Portugal’s National Day, bringing together diplomats, government officials, business leaders, media representatives, and members of civil society. The event served as a testament to the growing friendship and cooperation between Pakistan and Portugal. The ceremony highlighted Portugal’s rich cultural heritage, history, and commitment to international cooperation. Addressing the gathering, Portuguese Ambassador Paulo Miguel Guedes Domingues emphasised the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and expanding collaboration in trade, education, tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. He called Islamabad ISLAMA-BEST, expressing his nice stay in the capital. The ambassador also underscored the shared values of dialogue, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence that unite the two nations. Distinguished guests from Pakistan’s government and diplomatic community attended the celebration, reflecting the warm and cordial ties between the two countries. The evening featured the national anthems of Portugal and Pakistan, cultural interactions, and a reception showcasing Portuguese hospitality. The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony followed by a sumptuous dinner where Portuguese Custard Tart was a cherry on top. Portugal Day, officially known as the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities, is celebrated annually on June 10 to honour Portugal’s history, culture, language, and global diaspora. The occasion also pays tribute to renowned Portuguese poet Luís de Camões, whose legacy symbolises the nation’s spirit and identity. The celebration in Islamabad not only marked Portugal’s national pride but also reinforced the enduring partnership between Pakistan and Portugal, with both countries expressing a shared commitment to further enhancing diplomatic, economic, and cultural cooperation in the years ahead.
