Ashura 2026 date as ruet committee meets today for Muharram moon sighting

LAHORE – The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is all set to meet in Lahore today (Monday) for sighing to moon of Muharram Maulana Abdul habir Azad, chairman of the ruet committee, will chair the meeting while the zonal and district committees will meet in the respective areas. Muharram Moon 2026 Forecast Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has said there are no chances of sighting the Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 AH moon on June 15 due to insufficient time between moon birth and sunset. According to the Met Office, the moon is expected to be born at 7:54 am on June 15, but it will not be visible at sunset on Zil Hajj 29, despite generally clear weather conditions in many parts of the country. The PMD also released moonset timings for different regions. In Punjab, the moon will set at 7:59 pm, in Sindh at 8:55 pm, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at 8:23 pm, and in Balochistan at 8:34 pm. In Gilgit-Baltistan, moonset is expected at 8:00 pm, while in Azad Jammu and Kashmir it will be at 8:07 pm. Muharram Start Date As per the forecast, the holy month of Muharram, which marks the start of new Islamic year, is likely to start from June 17 if the moon is not sighted tonight. Ashura 2026 Date If the Muharram month starts on June 17, the Aushura 2026 will be observed on June 25 and June 26 across Pakistan.
