Lahore police get five-day physical remand of four suspects in abduction, rape of foreign women

LAHORE – The Lahore police have secured five-day physical remand of four suspects involved in abduction and rape of foreign women in DHA area of the provincial capital. A judicial magistrate passed the order after the police produced the suspects before the court. Judicial Magistrate Azhar Mahmood was hearing the case. As the hearing commenced, Defence Police requested the court to grant physical remand of the suspects for further investigation. The court completed the attendance of all arrested suspects before hearing the prosecution’s request. During the proceedings, the judge directed the accused to remove their face masks to verify their identities in the courtroom. The prosecutor informed the court that the complainants are foreign nationals and said that another suspect has also been nominated in the first information report (FIR). The investigating officer submitted that further interrogation of the accused was essential to collect evidence, verify facts, identify any additional suspects, and complete other investigative formalities. The prosecution argued that physical custody of the accused was necessary to advance the investigation. After hearing the arguments, the court approved a five-day physical remand of the four suspects, including the main accused Raza Dar and directed the police to continue the investigation in accordance with the law. The case was registered following allegations that two foreign women were abducted and sexually assaulted in Lahore’s Defence locality. The police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and the alleged involvement of all nominated suspects. The court directed the investigating officer to produce the accused again upon completion of the remand period along with a progress report on the investigation.
