Why this matters: an international story with cross-border implications worth tracking.

The daughter of late former president Alberto Fujimori, Keiko Fujimori will stand against the leftwing Roberto Sanchez in the second round of Peru's presidential elections. Sanchez's place in the contest was confirmed by the country's national election board on May 17 after he gathered over 2 million votes. But his position in the contest is not without controversy. Sanchez was accused of financial crime by the public prosecutor's office and the ultraconservative Rafael Lopez Aliga, who came third in the first round has said he will not recognise the election outcome.
