PESHAWAR – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to suspend the mobile phone services in various areas as it has finalized a comprehensive security plan for the 9th and 10th of Muharram. Officials said mobile phone services will be completely suspended in some areas, while partial restrictions will be imposed at other sensitive locations. The measures are aimed at maintaining law and order and preventing any untoward incidents during religious gatherings. Authorities have declared 400 Imambargahs across the province as sensitive or highly sensitive. In addition, 286 Muharram processions have been categorized as highly sensitive, while 190 processions have been placed in the sensitive category. In Peshawar, mobile services will remain partially suspended during the main procession on 9th Muharram, while the cantonment area will be completely sealed. On 10th Muharram, security checkpoints and special security arrangements will be established at all entry and exit points of the city. Security measures will include the installation of walk-through gates around processions and Imambargahs, continuous monitoring through CCTV cameras, and search operations by security forces in different areas. The provincial government has also established a central control room at the Civil Secretariat to monitor security arrangements during Ashura. Monitoring and coordination centers have been activated at the offices of deputy commissioners in all districts of the province.
