LAHORE – New details emerged on Friday as police continue investigating a case involving the alleged kidnapping, extortion, and assault of two foreign women by Raza Dar, a relative of a senior government official. Preliminary findings suggest that the victims and the accused were previously connected through cryptocurrency investment arrangements and business dealings. The suspects reportedly claimed to offer high returns on crypto investments and allegedly lured the women to Pakistan under this pretext, according to reports. Police said the two foreign women arrived in Lahore on 29 June and were scheduled to return on 5 July. However, before their departure, one of the main suspects allegedly took them to a location in the Defence area, where his associates were already present. The suspects, according to victims, later demanded approximately $1.5 million in returns linked to cryptocurrency investments, which escalated into a demand for ransom. Police further stated that action was initiated after an emergency call was received from abroad by the father of one of the victims. Following swift operations using Safe City cameras and technical surveillance, both women were recovered within hours, and four suspects were arrested. Authorities confirmed that the victims underwent medical examinations and statements from the arrested suspects have been recorded. The accused are expected to be produced before a magistrate, while police will seek further physical remand to continue investigations. Officials added that the case is being pursued at a high level, with raids underway to apprehend any additional suspects involved. Further developments are expected to be presented in court as the investigation progresses.
