Pakistan and Qatar-mediated talks between the United States and Iran officially commenced on Sunday in Bürgenstock to advance a recently signed peace framework. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, senior officials leading each delegation are expected to address the summit during the day. The negotiations, being held at the technical level, are focused on finalising key provisions of a Memorandum of Understanding (Mo U) reached earlier between Tehran and Washington, designed to halt ongoing hostilities and establish a pathway toward ending the conflict. As part of the proposed framework, both sides have agreed in principle to work toward ending the war, easing the longstanding US restrictions on Iran, and restoring access through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. In an official statement, Qatar’s foreign ministry confirmed the opening of what it called the Lucerne Lake Summit, alongside the first meeting of a high-level joint committee involving all four participating nations. Qatari foreign ministry spokesperson Majed bin Mohammed Al-Ansari said specialised working groups had been established to negotiate the final terms of the agreement, with teams assigned to address each clause included in the MoU. He added that separate monitoring groups have also been formed to supervise implementation of the agreement and evaluate progress toward a final settlement, underscoring what he described as a shared commitment by all parties to continue negotiations constructively and reach a durable long-term solution.
