LAHORE – A meeting chaired by Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique held at the Civil Secretariat reviewed the arrangements for Eid-ul-Azha and took necessary decisions. Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian and concerned municipal officers attended the meeting through video link. With the approval of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the Local Government Department has issued guidelines for Eid-ul-Azha. The holidays of municipal employees and Suthra Punjab workers have been canceled till the last day of Eid. The meeting also decided to fully activate temporary cattle sale points across Punjab by tomorrow (Sunday). On the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, no fee will be charged for buying and selling animals this year as well. Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique said that the livestock markets and sale points of the Punjab Cattle Market Management Company will also provide facilities, while the municipal committee will also set up temporary sale points in every city. He stressed that illegal sale points and buying and selling on the roads should be strictly stopped. “Monitoring staff on motorcycles or cars will patrol in every city 24 hours. Announcements should be made through loudspeakers on rickshaws to guide the citizens”, he urged. Zeeshan Rafique also said that banners should be displayed at prominent places regarding the availability of facilities at sale points. He warned the concerned officers that action would be taken if any trader is seen outside the sale points holding animals taking rope in his hands. The provincial minister ordered the local media members to brief them on all Eid plans saying that in the light of the experience of the last two years, a better performance should be shown this time.
