Punjab to provide electric bikes on rent – update on per hour charges

LAHORE – The Punjab government has decided to provide electric bikes on rent to citizens in Lahore as it is taking measures to promote environment friendly transport amid climate challenges. In the initial phase of the project, the government will offer 10,000 electric bikes on rent while 300 docking and charging stations will be established throughout the city. The Punjab Housing Authority (PHA) will provide land for these stations, enabling better connectivity between residential and commercial areas and nearby public transport points. Officials said the project is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions in Lahore, cutting thousands of tons of carbon output annually and helping to control air pollution and smog levels in the city. Multiple departments, including the Parks and Horticulture Authority, Transport Department, and Safe City Authority, will participate in the initiative. The service is designed to offer affordable and modern mobility solutions for students, employees, and the general public, who will be able to access e-bikes through a mobile application. The Secretary Housing said the e-bike rental system will help reduce traffic congestion, fuel expenses, and environmental pollution. He added that the government is introducing modern projects to address smog and improve urban air quality. E-Bike Rent Charges Update The government has not yet announced any details regarding the rental charges for the proposed e-bike service, and it remains unclear whether the bikes will be available on an hourly or daily payment basis. At present, private operators in Lahore are already offering petrol bike rental services, charging around Rs. 50 per hour from customers.
