ISLAMABAD – Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) prices witnessed a massive increase of up to 28percent, in what is said to be a fresh blow to energy costs. Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) officially issued notification for LNG prices for the month of May, confirming significant upward revisions across both major gas distribution systems. According to the notification, on the Sui Southern Gas Company system, the price of LNG has been increased by $3.51 per MMBTU, marking a steep rise in energy costs for consumers in the region. The situation on Sui Northern Gas Pipeline system is also grim, as LNG becomes $3.4 per MMBTU more expensive. The new price for Sui Northern has now been set at $16.98 per MMBTU. For consumers under the Sui Southern system, the new LNG price has been officially fixed at $16.04 per MMBTU, reflecting the broader upward adjustment in imported energy costs. This sharp increase is expected to have a ripple effect on industrial, commercial, and household energy bills, intensifying concerns over inflation and rising utility costs across the country.
