QUETTA – As militants prepared to strike police station and banks in remote part of Balochistan, security forces moved swiftly to counter the threat, and the operation ended with 14 militants killed and the attack plot foiled, but the victory came at price as soldier embraced martyrdom while defending the motherland. In a statement, ISPR said a planned wave of attacks in Balochistan was prevented after security forces carried out an intelligence-based operation in the Basima district, killing 14 militants and dismantling their network, according to the military. Intelligence reports pointed to presence of militants in the Naal area who were allegedly preparing attacks on a nearby police station and banks. Acting on the information, security forces launched a swift operation to stop the threat before it could materialise. The operation led to fierce exchange of fire, during which troops successfully engaged the militants. By the end of the encounter, 14 militants had been killed, while several others were reported injured. Security forces also destroyed four vehicles and a number of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) believed to have been intended for future attacks. Amid success of operation, the country also lost one of its defenders. Lance Havildar Muhammad Abbas embraced martyrdom while fighting on the front line, laying down his life in the line of duty. His sacrifice underscored the human cost often paid in the fight against militancy. The military said clearance operations remain underway to ensure no militant elements are left behind in the area. Officials reaffirmed that counterterrorism efforts under the Azm-i-Istehkam strategy will continue across the country to eliminate militant threats and strengthen security.
