Why this matters: local context for readers following news across Pakistan and the region.
ISLAMABAD – The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to end the weekly Friday holiday for employees of its Engineering Wing and withdraw the work-from-home facility as part of administrative changes aimed at improving operational efficiency. According to an official notification, all officers and staff of the Engineering Wing will now be required to attend office on Fridays as well. The CDA administration stated that the Engineering Wing is responsible for essential public services, including streetlights, traffic signals, road maintenance, building upkeep, and the stormwater drainage system. Continuous monitoring of these operations has been cited as the reason for ensuring full-time staff presence. Meanwhile, in Islamabad, preparations for Eidul Adha 2026 are underway with the establishment of six official cattle markets across the city. Arrangements are being finalized to facilitate both citizens and livestock traders. District administration officials, including assistant commissioners, have visited various cattle markets to review arrangements such as parking, clean drinking water, sanitation, electricity, and other basic facilities. Traffic flow around the markets was also inspected to ensure smooth movement for visitors. The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad has directed authorities to provide all possible facilities to traders arriving from remote areas. He also clarified that the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals will only be permitted at officially designated cattle markets. Strict action and accountability have been ordered in case of any unauthorized roadside markets.
