KARACHI – Pakistan Meteorological Department on Friday forecast a major rise in temperatures across Sindh during the upcoming Eidul Azha holidays, warning that the maximum temperature could increase by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal levels. A high-pressure system is expected to develop in the upper atmosphere on May 25 and may strengthen further by May 26. Under its influence, most districts of Sindh are likely to experience moderate to severe heatwave conditions between May 25 and May 31, coinciding with the Eid holidays. During this period, daytime temperatures in several northern and central districts, including Sukkur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Dadu, Ghotki, Khairpur and surrounding areas, may rise sharply, with the maximum temperature expected to reach between 47°C and 50°C. In southern and rural parts of the province such as Tharparkar, Badin, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Jamshoro and Sanghar, the mercury is likely to stay in the range of 44°C to 47°C. The Met Office said that Karachi is not expected to face a heatwave during the period. However, the city will remain hot and humid, with maximum temperatures around 37°C and minimum temperatures near 27°C. Officials added that high humidity levels—ranging from 70 to 80 percent in the morning and 55 to 65 percent in the evening—may make the heat feel more intense than the actual temperature. Authorities have advised citizens, especially children, women and the elderly, to take precautionary measures. People are urged to avoid direct sunlight, particularly between 10 am and 4 pm, and to increase water intake during the Eid holidays.
