Long weekend ahead as local holiday announced for June 8

KARACHI – The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced a local holiday on June 8 (Monday) on account of the annual Urs of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi (RA). A formal notification issued by the Human Resource Management Department of KMC stated that June 8, corresponding to 22 Zul Hijjah 1447 AH, will be observed as a local holiday in the city. Long Weekend. The holiday creates a long weekend for government officials and others who observe the regular Saturday and Sunday weekly offs, as June 8 follows the weekend of June 6 and 7. What the Notification Says According to the notification, the holiday has been declared in light of a resolution approved by the Karachi City Council. All offices operating under the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation will remain closed on the occasion. The notification further stated that institutions and offices responsible for essential and emergency services will continue their operations as usual to ensure that citizens do not face any disruption in the availability of basic services. KMC officials said that the decision to declare the local holiday was approved by the competent authority. Relevant departments and administrative units have been informed to ensure effective implementation of the notification. Every year, large numbers of devotees from across the country participate in the Urs celebrations of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi.
