TEHRAN – Iran has warned that continued Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon could provoke a strong response, amid growing concerns over regional stability. In a statement issued by an Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters spokesperson, Israeli forces were accused of violating a ceasefire arrangement 84 times over the past two days. The statement also alleged that civilians had been killed during the reported incidents, contributing to increased tensions in the region. The headquarters said that despite claims by US President Donald Trump regarding a ceasefire or a reduction in hostilities, conditions on the ground had not improved and military activity was continuing. Iranian officials stated that the country’s armed forces are capable of responding if operations in southern Lebanon persist. The statement further emphasized Iran’s determination to oppose what it described as acts of aggression and rejected the possibility of accepting unilateral actions in the region. Separately, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf held a telephone conversation with his Lebanese counterpart. The two leaders stressed the importance of fulfilling commitments outlined in a recently agreed memorandum and called for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied areas of Lebanon, as well as the return of displaced residents to their homes. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said negotiations between Iran and the United States would take place on the same day a memorandum is scheduled to be signed on June 19. He added that follow-up talks aimed at reaching a final agreement are expected within 60 days and will include discussions on the nuclear issue and sanctions relief. According to the information provided, the memorandum is set to be signed in Brienz Stock, near Lucerne in central Switzerland, a location considered suitable for security purposes due to its mountainous terrain.
