Iran is re-evaluating the future of negotiations with the United States following repeated violations of ceasefire agreements. According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, spokesperson of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ismail Baghaei, said: “We need to review this. Diplomacy and the battlefield are not separate matters; rather, they are linked to the protection of Iran’s interests and security.” Early in the morning, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement that American forces carried out an operation in Iran in response to a helicopter being shot down. CENTCOM said: “This mission is a response in the context of unprovoked Iranian aggression.” On the other hand, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said in their statement that “the US government, which is escalating violence, carried out attacks early this morning on several locations in Jask, Sirik, and Qeshm, resulting in damage to a communication tower in Sirik and the destruction of two water tanks used for civilian supply.” The Revolutionary Guards also claimed that they targeted and destroyed four major objectives using long-range missiles, including US military bases. Iran’s IRNA news agency, citing the Revolutionary Guards, said these included F-35 hangars and a US military command and control centre in Jordan. Referring to US actions, Ismail Baghaei said that wherever the armed forces deem necessary, they respond to the enemy with their capabilities and power, and that last night’s events have shown that Iran’s armed forces do not hesitate in defending the country. He added that on the diplomatic front as well, all pillars of the system are working in full coordination. Wherever possible, they will proceed through diplomacy, and where necessary, they will use military force to defend the country. US airstrikes in Sirik cut drinking water access for thousands
