Why this matters: local context for readers following news across Pakistan and the region.

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an important advisory for Whats App users. It has warned that accounts linked with inactive, blocked, deactivated, or unregistered SIM cards could become inaccessible. According to the advisory, users are advised to ensure that their Whats App numbers remain connected to an active and verified SIM card to protect their conversations, contacts, and digital identity. PTA recommended users immediately check whether their Whats App number is linked with a valid SIM. Those using inactive SIMs have been advised to transfer their WhatsApp account to a verified SIM. The authority also advised users to visit their nearest franchise or customer service center for biometric verification and SIM confirmation if required. PTA urged users not to wait until they are unexpectedly logged out of their accounts, emphasizing that a mobile number is not only a means of communication but also part of a person’s digital identity. Separately, mobile users have been advised to ensure their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) remains valid and updated to avoid possible SIM blockage or disruption in services. Citizens are encouraged to renew their CNIC through the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and update their mobile records to ensure uninterrupted connectivity. Authorities have urged users to complete the required verification process on time to prevent any inconvenience related to mobile services.
