Ashura 2026 marked peacefully in Islamabad and Rawalpindi amid hightened security and now there will be traffic diversions in Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Saturday (11th Muharram) as mourning processions are scheduled to take place across both cities. In Islamabad, the main mourning procession will commence at 8:00am from Purana Imambargah Noor Pur Shahan and proceed towards Bari Imam Shrine, where it is expected to conclude around 8:00pm. Mourning groups arriving on foot from Rawalpindi, Taxila and Golra Sharif will join the procession en route. The procession will follow Jinnah Avenue, Kashmir Avenue, Aabpara Chowk, Khayaban-e-Suhrawardy Road, Atta Turk Avenue, State Bank Building, Radio Pakistan Chowk, PM Secretariat Road and Bari Imam Road before reaching Bari Imam Shrine. A second procession will start from the residence of Mushtaq Shah in Shah Allah Ditta and pass through the residence of Imtiaz Shah, concluding at Imambargah Shah Allah Ditta. During the procession, the road between T-Cross School and Shah Allah Ditta Cemetery will remain closed to traffic. Commuters have been advised to use Street No. 9 as an alternate route towards Iran Avenue. Meanwhile, in Rawalpindi, a mourning procession will take place in the Peshawar Road area from 2:00pm to approximately 7:30pm. Under the traffic management plan, Peshawar Road, ABL Street, Misrial Road and Hali Road will remain closed for vehicular traffic during the procession. Authorities have urged citizens to plan their travel accordingly, follow designated diversion routes and cooperate with traffic police to avoid inconvenience.
