Why this matters: local context for readers following news across Pakistan and the region.
ISLAMABAD – The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has rejected claims circulating from Afghan Taliban-linked sources that alleged militant targets inside Pakistan were struck using drones near the border. In a social media statement, the ministry described the claims as “false,” asserting that militant organizations, including the regional branch of the so-called Islamic State, operate from territory under the control of the Afghan Taliban administration. “The claims are false as usual. Terrorist camps including that of Daesh and more than two dozen other terrorists organisations are factually located, run and patronised from inside the territories under control of Afghan Taliban regime,” read the statement. *𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤 | 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 & 𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠* ◼️The Afghan Taliban regime through their various propaganda mouthpieces and official statements are claiming to have targeted some alleged ISKP camps in border areas of Khyber… pic.twitter.com/xyzutM6O3A — Fact Checker MoIB (@FactCheckerMoIB) June 19, 2026 “To cover their patronisation of terror waged in neighbouring countries and region, including that from Daesh, FAK, FAH and others, the Taliban regime is used to issue such fake and nefarious statements,” the ministry said. According to the ministry, a drone allegedly launched from Afghanistan entered Pakistani airspace near the Shinko area of Khyber District. Pakistani authorities said the aircraft was detected by air defense systems and was subsequently neutralized. The ministry shared an image that it said showed the downed drone. “One rudimentary drone of Tailban regime intruded inside Pakistan airspace near Shinko, Khyber. It was immediately identified and neutralised by the alert Air Defence system of Pakistan Air Force, picture attached,” it concluded.
